Timbale Terrace Fails to Deliver 4 Supportive Housing Needs Identified in the East Harlem Neighborhood Plan
The East Harlem Community has spoken through 8 hearing sessions in 2016. 4 populations were identified to need supportive housing but the Timbale Terrace plan failed to pay heed to this request. Instead the 1515 program is used to provide additional funding.
What is 1515 program?
1515 program is one type of supportive housing, for “individuals and families with serious mental illness, substance use disorders and/or disabling medical conditions”. The population chosen for Timbale Terrace specifically is population A, for single adults. (see the document from the government here)
Besides 1515 for single adults, are there other funding sources?
Yes. population B in the 1515 program for homeless families, or other programs such as SARA (Senior Affordable Rental Apartments), HASA (HIV/AIDS Service Administration), HWF (Housing for Working Families), SHOP (the Supportive Housing Opportunity Program), HTF (the Low Income Housing Trust Fund Program), SLIHC (New York State Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program), or apply for special grants for artists, as was done in the El Barrio Art Space project (learn more)
